Ian Williams Founder of Kairology - based in Nelson New Zealand

Ian Williams – Founder of Kairology®

Ian is highly regarded in coaching people within organisations and on a personal level. His inspiration and purpose come from personal convictions about building quality and purpose in working life.

Ian has won awards for service delivery in business excellence, and assessor of the year for the international people management standard, Investors in People, for whom was an international assessor for many years. He is qualified in people management, coaching, assessment and business excellence, which places him well as a business mentor. He has also worked as a volunteer prison chaplain, with a dedication for re-building lives and reducing re-offending through a specific personal leadership study he has authored in Manhood, Marriage and Fatherhood. The study continues to impact the lives of men and their families in New Zealand and the Pacific Region, with equivalent versions for women and  generic community groups (Personhood, Marriage and Parenthood).

Ian experience is in a wide range of organisational and leadership development roles within both government and commercial sectors. He has a passion for making a difference to results at every level. He has notched up well over 30 years experience, including board and governance level. His international experience is mainly Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

He delivers results-orientated coaching and consultancy. He is passionate about improving the quality of contribution that people can make in the organisations they work, and also the contributions organisations can make to their people. His approach to leadership is aligned with world-renowned Professor John Adair.

Originally from the industrial heartlands of England, he is based in New Zealand and owns several businesses in management and hospitality. One is Kairology®,  involved in developing people, with a particular passion for organisational diagnostics, leadership development, family business consulting, coaching and business excellence. Others are his own family hospitality businesses in Nelson, The Vic Public House and Burger Culture, where he brings his knowledge and experience of family business consulting to practical use in hospitality excellence, along with his wife, sons and daughter.

In his book Kairology, Ian has brought together a unique and broad range of coaching and leadership ideas, concepts and models in a simple and straightforward way, so that the tools in the book, and matching coaching program, are equally suitable for personal and corporate use. Primarily his writing is about creating space for people to take stock and understand themselves better, and to work towards their own goals, aspirations and possibilities – without the necessity to pay for coaching.

His passions are leadership, people and organisation development, about which he writes, speaks, and consults. He is involved in governance roles on several business and voluntary sector boards and trusts.
